What is the width and turning radius for roads to accommodate horse trailers, hay delivery, bedding materials?

Typically, any large gravel or footing truck can make do with a road sixteen feet wide. If this sounds like a lot, keep in mind that the truck wheels are usually about 8-9 feet apart, which doesn’t leave them much room on either side to stay on the road and off your grass. Also, some materials and gravel may come in on truck and trailer, which is basically twice as long as just a single truck. There are fewer trips this way, but they will need long, gradual curves to make any turns, and an amazing amount of room to turn around. If you call a local gravel or footing supplier, usually they will come out free of charge to look at your particular situation and tell you what they think they will need for access.

As far as horse trailers are concerned, the same rules apply, with the additional note that if the road is going to be used for that purpose very often it would be a wise investment to create a turn-around circle for ease of access and usability. Most horse owners drive a truck and trailer out of necessity, and would rather not have to be adept at backing in, turning around, etc.
